BAFTA to honour This Morning with special award
Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby announced to viewers last week that This Morning will be honoured with a special BAFTA award and tribute event during its 30th year.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) will honour ITV’s flagship daytime show next month in recognition of the continuing success of its creative and innovative approach to daytime television production; of its popular appeal among the British TV-viewing public; and for it launching the careers of many of those working in the factual entertainment genre today. It is also being given in recognition of the programme’s contribution to the development of the television production hub in the North West when it was produced at its original home at the Granada Studio on Albert Dock, Liverpool.
Phillip Schofield said, “Good morning and welcome to your midweek This Morning where we have some very exciting news to share…”
Holly added, “As you know, next month we will be celebrating our 30th birthday and to mark the occasion, BAFTA have decided to honour This Morning with a tribute event and a special award!”
Phillip said, “It’s to recognise the continuing success of the programme – celebrating its history and contributors from across its 30 years on air.”
A BAFTA image was displayed next to the pair on screen where the duo tried to reach out for it. Phillip smiled, “We can’t quite touch it yet…”
Holly went on to say, “We can’t touch it yet because Phillip and I, alongside original hosts Richard and Judy, will be at the event on Monday 1st October – which will be filmed and uploaded to the BAFTA website.”
