Bromley children invite parents into school to witness their art exhibition
Pupils at Downe Primary School have welcomed their parents into school to view the results of an extensive art project.
The children at the Bromley primary school, part of The Pioneer Academy (TPA) trust, all took part in the whole-school event to create their own artwork. The collected art pieces were then exhibited at an after-school event for parents and families who were then given the opportunity to purchase their child’s work.
The artwork was focused on the Coronation of Kings Charles III, with each year group tackling a different theme including Union Jacks, tissue paper portraits and even caricatures of different figures.
The artwork came about as part of the ‘Pioneer Passport’. Each child within a Pioneer Academy school will receive a Pioneer Passport with seven activities to do by the age of seven, and 11 more by the age of 11.
These include activities and opportunities such as visiting a farm and beach, castle and art gallery, building a den in a forest, and performing Shakespeare. This gives them a structured balanced curriculum outside the classroom as well as within it. All of these activities are paid for by Pioneer.
Rebecca Dolan, Principal at Downe Primary School, said:
“It was fantastic to welcome so many of our pupils’ families into school to show off their hard work. Our children were rightly extremely proud of their artwork and I know how impressed the parents were with the quality of the pieces on display.
“It’s been really lovely to see them using the skills they’ve been taught in their art classes in such a range of creative ways. It’s really important to all of us across Pioneer that our children have the opportunity to experience lots of different activities outside of the classroom. These formative experiences will help them develop so many skills and will stand them in good stead for the future.”
