Killing Eve kills it on BBC iPlayer over first weekend

The new series of Killing Eve has already proved a huge smash on BBC iPlayer, with episode one requested 864,000 times and the box set for series two requested 2.6m times in the first 36 hours of it being available – up 79 percent on the series one opener.

Episode one also proved hugely popular on BBC One, peaking when 3.7m people tuning in to watch the series opener.

The full second series of the Bafta Award-winning series dropped on BBC iPlayer on Saturday evening, as Jodie Comer’s Villanelle and Sandra Oh’s Eve returned to our screens on BBC One. And since then, some fans haven’t been able to stop themselves from bingeing on the whole thing, as BBC iPlayer data shows that 18,000 people signed into their BBC accounts have raced through the full box set and already finished the whole second series.

The first series of Killing Eve, which is also available on BBC iPlayer is still the BBC’s biggest ever box set, with 53m requests since it first arrived in September last year. And, in this weekend alone, the first series has seen more than 676,000 requests, as existing fans reminded themselves of events ahead of the new series and new viewers decided to check out the hype.

Charlotte Moore, BBC Director of Content, says: “We know people loved the first series of Killing Eve and so it’s no surprise audiences have flocked to series two. The first episode of the second series is already on track to be one of our biggest episodes ever and we expect it to keep on growing. And it’s amazing to see that 18,000 people haven’t been able to stop themselves from bingeing the whole second series!”
