Odyssey 2023 Sustainable Corporate Culture Film Awards go to 9 Chinese companies
Odyssey 2023’s inaugural “Sustainable Corporate Culture Film Awards” ceremony took place on the 9th of September at the Cambridge Junction, in Cambridge, UK.
Now in its 3rd edition, Odyssey is the biggest film festival in the UK engaging with Greater China. The festival celebrates “Global Sustainability” as its main theme this year, responding to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It opened at the Battersea Power Station in London on the 26th of May with Hong Kong documentary “Finding Bliss: Fire and Ice”.

A newly added competition category, the “Sustainable Corporate Culture Film Awards”, aim to encourage Chinese companies to see film as a possible medium not only for their corporate communications about their commitment to global sustainability, but also as a medium for critical reflection.
An initial call for submission was released at the beginning of 2023. The selection process lasted over 7 months and the final online judging panel lasted 4 hours. Shortlisted companies were invited to attend an oral defense and to answer questions asked by the jurors. The jury panel this year comprises members from environmental NGOs, universities and film distribution company from both countries.
Mei Sim Lai OBE DL, Chair of tve (television for the Environment) attended the ceremony to congratulate all the winners. Other award presenting guests included Cedric Behrel, Managing Director of Trinity CineAsia and Karma Wangdi, Head of Operations of tve.

This is the first of its kind film festival to engage with Chinese companies by using “Global Sustainability” as a common topic. The competition component’s main partner is Rongzhiyun Technology Development Co., Ltd., with additional support from China Biodiversity Conservation Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), UK charity tve (television for the Environment) and UK based independent film distributor Trinity CineAsia.
Odyssey is an annual film festival presented by UK-China Film Collab, an NGO for the research and practice of film diplomacy.
