Following its launch in March, The Icon Film Channel on Amazon Prime Video has launched eight new titles including Alice Lowe’s acclaimed horror-comedy Prevenge, Dave Bautista action hit Bushwick and documentary I Am Big Bird, about Sesame Street puppeteer Carroll Spinney.

More new titles are due to launch on the channel every month, with acclaimed Italian mafia thriller Suburra and moving documentary Do I Sound Gay? coming in June and July, among many others.

PREVENGE (Alice Lowe, Kate Dickie, Kavyan Novak)
A pitch black, wryly British comedy from the mind of Alice Lowe, Prevenge follows Ruth, a pregnant woman on a killing spree but it’s her misanthropic unborn baby dictating Ruth’s actions, holding society responsible for the absence of a father. The child speaks to Ruth from the womb, coaching her to lure and ultimately kill her unsuspecting victims. Struggling with her conscience, loneliness, and a strange strain of prepartum madness, Ruth must ultimately choose between redemption and destruction at the moment of motherhood. Having shown at Venice, Toronto and the London International Film Festival, Prevenge marked the directorial debut from Lowe, who writes, directs, and acts in the film during her own real-life pregnancy.

BUSHWICK (Dave Bautista, Brittany Snow)
Lucy (Brittany Snow), a young woman on her way home from graduate school, emerges from a Brooklyn subway to find that her neighbourhood, Bushwick, is under attack by black-clad military soldiers. Her boyfriend dies in an explosion, sending her into the chaos of the invasion alone. When she is attacked by two thugs, ex-Marine Stupe (Dave Bautista) intervenes, and the two are thrown together amid the chaos of grenade explosions and armed looters. The destruction from Brooklyn to Manhattan continues to spread, as Stupe captures and unmasks a soldier, whom they are shocked to discover is American. As America declares war on itself, Lucy and Stupe must fight local gangs, survive riots, and continued attacks from the invading soldiers to make it out of Bushwick alive.

I AM BIG BIRD (Jim Henson, Frank Oz)
Combining compelling interviews with fellow puppeteer cronies and fascinating material from Carroll Spinney’s personal archives, I Am Big Bird illuminates the dynamic portrait of an unknown man whose Sesame Street characters, Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch, have influenced generations of children. An icon of popular culture for over 40 years, beak and feathers weaving a path through American history; Caroll’s stories are the stuff of legend. And, as the yellow feathers give way to grey hair, it is the man, not the puppet, who will steal your heart.

HUNGRY HEARTS (Adam Driver, Alba Rohrwacher)
New York City newlyweds Jude and Mina have a seemingly perfect relationship, but things take an unsettling turn after the birth of their son. Convinced that the baby must be kept free of all contaminants, Mina develops fanatical obsessions with veganism, cleanliness, and purity that may kill the child unless Jude can stop her in time. Starring Adam Driver and Alba Rohrwacher, Hungry Hearts is an unnerving and gripping psychological thrill-ride.

VERY GOOD GIRLS (Elizabeth Olsen, Dakota Fanning)
Naomi Foner’s directorial debut, Very Good Girls, explores the complicated dynamics of family and friendship as it tells the story of two best friends who, during their last summer before heading off to college, learn some unexpected lessons about life, love and the true meaning of friendship. In a cosy corner of Brooklyn on a sweltering afternoon, best friends Lilly (Dakota Fanning) and Gerri (Elizabeth Olsen) bump into a handsome, enigmatic stranger who quickly becomes an object of both their affections. How the girls resolve this situation will be a lesson for the rest of their lives, defining love as impossible without truth and the only thing that really sets you free.

YOU, ME AND HIM (David Tennant, Lucy Punch, Simon Bird)
At 40, Olivia is a career-driven lawyer in a stable relationship with her younger girlfriend, Alex. Happy at home and at work, Olivia has no interest in children -until the day she finds herself sobbing uncontrollably over a friend’s pregnancy. Alex, confused by Olivia’s sudden change of heart, and sticking by her own anti-maternal principles, strikes back recklessly, with an all too willing neighbour, John. Struggling to deal with the life-changing consequences of their actions, the once like-minded couple face a difficult decision: can they let go of the future they had imagined together, in order to survive? A heart-stirring comedy starring David Tennant, Lucy Punch, Faye Marsay, Simon Bird and Sally Phillips, You, Me and Him is a bold, warm and deeply funny exploration of love and pregnancy in the 21st century.

A FUNNY KIND OF LOVE (Damon Herriman)
Starring and directed by Josh Lawson (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues), five suburban couples navigate their way through the bedroom as sexual fetishes, from the run-of-the-mill to the hilariously obscure, push their relationships to new boundaries. For Maeve and Paul, toes are just the foothold of their desires, while next door neighbours Evie and Dan are all dressed up, but will role play expose marital flaws which they can’t pretend away? Across the road, Rowena and Rich’s intimate antics bring them close to tears, while just around the corner, Phil begins an affair with his own wife Maureen, but without her realising it… An outrageous romantic comedy exploring the secrets, desires, qualms and kinks of sex, it really is A Funny Kind of Love.

CANOPY (Khan Chittenden)
Wartime,1942. Singapore. An Australian fighter pilot shot down in combat awakens suspended in the treetops. As night devours day, he must navigate through the dangerous jungle in search of sanctuary. Transcending language and culture, Canopy is a cinematic tour de force exploring the collision of war, nature and its impact on humanity.
