The Nun, the terrifying new chapter in New Line Cinema’s and James Wan’s Conjuring universe, scared up an estimated weekend total of £4,098,000 at the UK box office, including £664,000 in previews on Thursday. The announcement was made today by Josh Berger, President and Managing Director of Warner Bros. Entertainment UK, Eire and Spain.

In making the announcement, Josh Berger stated, “We’re thrilled that audiences in the UK & Ireland continue to enjoy being terrified by the Conjuring universe.  We congratulate James Wan, the architect of this amazing franchise; director Corin Hardy; producer Peter Safran; screenwriter Gary Dauberman; and the talented cast and crew, all of whom have delivered the exhilarating scares that fans have been waiting for.  These terrific results and enthusiastic word-of-mouth demonstrate that the appetite is only growing.”

Wan and Safran have produced all the films in The Conjuring franchise.

When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate.  Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret.  Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in The Conjuring 2, as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.

The Nun stars Oscar-nominated Demian Bichir, as well as Taissa Farmiga, and Jonas Bloquet.

The cast also includes Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Bisu, and Bonnie Aarons, reprising her Conjuring 2role as the title character.

Corin Hardy directs The Nun from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman, story by James Wan & Gary Dauberman.  Richard Brener, Walter Hamada, Dave Neustadter, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear and Todd Williams are the executive producers.
