Oscar-Winning Nomadland as well as Capone, Edge of The World, My New York Year, Made in Italy (4K HDR) and more join Rakuten TV in June

There is something for everyone on offer this month as a fantastic selection of brand-new titles join Rakuten TV in June. Films for every occasion will be available with a mixture of dramas, romantic comedies and action thrillers including Nomadland, Capone, The Weight of Gold, My New York Year, Georgetown, The United States vs Billie Holiday (4K HDR), A Cinderella Story: Starstruck, True Mothers, Edge of The World, Flashback, Born A Champion, SAS: Red Notice (4K HDR), Made in Italy (4K HDR), and The War with Grandpa (4K HDR). Joining Rakuten TV’s Starzplay section is the much-awaited Godfather of Harlem S2. Plus, Rakuten TV’s FREE section adds Haywire, Who We Are, Natural Born Killers, Guess Who and Stonewall.

Awarded three Oscars and set to be the film of the year, director Chloe Zao brings audiences Nomadland starring Frances McDormand. Struck by the 2008 economic crash, Fern (McDormand) is forced to embark on a life on the road, and soon finds a serenity and euphoria in this way of life. With critics calling it McDormand’s performance of a lifetime, it’s not one to miss. True Mothers is another tender and compassionate drama that tells the heartfelt story of an adoptive mother who is thrown into crisis when her son’s biological mother attempts to blackmail her.

Based on true events comes the untold story of Al Capone (Tom Hardy), America’s most notorious gangster. Released early from prison due to the onset of dementia, the FBI keep a watchful eye on “Fonzo” as they investigate a stash of $10 million, he has buried – only he can’t remember where. At a change of pace comes My New York Year, telling the true story of Joanna Rakoff’s memoir in which she details working for a New York literary agency who represents none other than J.D Sallinger. One for the music lovers, Andra Day excels in The United States vs Billie Holliday, a drama that follows Holiday during her impressive singing career whilst she is targeted with an undercover federal sting operation.

The biographical dramas don’t stop there, as director C. Waltz brings audiences Georgetown, a crime drama based on the 2012 New York Times story of a devious social climber arrested for the murder of his wife. Narrated by Olympic champion and executive producer Michael Phelps comes The Weight of Gold, a title that gives audiences a harsh look into the pressures and severe mental challenges that Olympic athletes suffer.

Cheerful and upbeat, the sixth in the iconic Cinderella Story franchise is A Cinderella Story: Starstruck starring Bailee Madison. Small town farm girl Finley longs for something bigger and when a Hollywood film crew come to her town to shoot a movie, she sees this as her chance! Continuing the comedy is Made in Italy starring Liam Neeson and real-life son Michael Richardson. The pair seek catharsis in a rundown house in Tuscany, getting to work turning the crumbling villa into a functioning family home – patching up their own relationship along the way. Bound to have you in stitches, Robert De Niro is back with the next big family-fun film The War with Grandpa, a hilarious comedy which will undoubtedly bring the whole family together this June.

Keeping audiences on the edge of their seats is a fantastic selection of action-packed titles joining the platform. Edge Of the World starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Dominic Monaghan tells the gripping story of two friends torn apart by the elements, as they struggle against the harshness of life on the isolated Shetland Isles. One for the sports fans, Born A Champion tells the story of Mickey Kelley, a former marine turned jiu-jitsu black belt who gets thrown into a brutal unsanctioned match with an unforgiving opponent. Ruby Rose stars in SAS: Red Notice, a heart pounding thrill ride that sees a team of heavily armed and ruthless war criminals hijack the Eurostar deep beneath the English Channel. If this isn’t enough to get hearts pounding, Flashback starring Dylan O’Brien, throws protagonist Fred into a terrifying trip down memory lane as he literally, and metaphorically, journeys back through his past and uncovers the truth of the mysterious disappearance of a classmate.

Furthermore, a host of titles are added to Rakuten TV’s ad-supported FREE channel. On 27th May BVB Stories: Who We Are, a documentary series about the German football team Borussia Dortmund, will join the Rakuten Stories channel about the German football team Borussia Dortmund. From 1st June including Guess Who (Ashton Kutcher, Zoe Saldana), Hay Wire (Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor), Natural Born Killers (Woody Harrelson, Juliette Lewis).

Joining Starzplay, in the SUPSCRIPTION section, on 20th June is the much-awaited Season 2 of Godfather of Harlem. Telling the story of infamous Harlem crime boss Bumpy Johnson, Season 2 finds Bumpy battling the New York crime Families for control of the lucrative and murderous “French Connection”, the pipeline for heroin that runs from Marseilles to New York Harbour.

Not forgetting the fantastic promotions that Rakuten TV has to offer audiences this June. From the 31st May – 13th June Rakuten TV is offering the promotion ‘Edge of Your Seat Thriller’, providing audiences discounted prices on a fantastic list of horror titles, starting with A Quiet Place, perfect timing before A Quiet Place II is released in cinemas in June.
