Beat the January blues with a big screen performance featuring a sensational jazz score by world-renowned artists. Opening exclusively in cinemas across the UK and Ireland from 31st January 2024, BLUE GIANT tells the story of a young man who leaves his hometown for the nightclubs of Tokyo, and must confront what it truly means to be a great musician.

BLUE GIANT features music composed by HIROMI, the Grammy Award-winning virtuoso pianist who performed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games opening ceremony. HIROMI also performs the film’s piano pieces alongside top musicians assembled after a worldwide search: acclaimed artist and Berklee College of Music alumni Tomoaki Baba on tenor saxophone, with drums by Shun Ishikawa of MILLENNIUM PARADE (Mamoru Hosoda’s BELLE).

BLUE GIANT has been called “an intense and memorable concert-like experience” by Screen Rant, and was named one of 2023’s Top 10 Best Animated Films by Paste Magazine. The film was screened as a sneak preview at the 2023 Annecy International Film Festival.

Dai Miyamoto’s life changes when he discovers jazz. He picks up a tenor saxophone and practices every day. After leaving his hometown Sendai, he pursues a music career in Tokyo with the help of his friend Shunji. One day, Dai plays passionately from the heart and convinces talented pianist Yukinori to start a band together. Along with Shunji, a beginner drummer, they form JASS. With each live performance, they get closer and closer to performing at So Blue, the most famous jazz club in Japan, in hopes of forever changing the world of jazz. Based on the manga by Shinichi Ishizuka, Blue Giant from Yuzuru Tachikawa is a moving ode to the power of jazz with original music by HIROMI.

BLUE GIANT will be released in selected cinemas across the United Kingdom and Ireland from 31 January 2024 in Japanese with English subtitles. For more information, please visit
