Second season of Amazon Prime hit The Boys is UK’s most anticipated TV series

New research has found that The Boys season 2 is the UK’s the most anticipated TV series over the past 12 months.

Analysis by gaming experts CasinoScores looked at the average number of times each of the top 100 rated series in the UK have been Googled each month over the past year.

The second season of The Boys topped the list after the Amazon Prime show received critical acclaim for its alternative take on the superhero genre which sees the titular characters abuse their super powers.

The Boys series 1 has been nominated for 6 primetime Emmys, while IMDB shows that it is most highly rated by male under 18s, who score it at 9.4 out of 10, compared to a rating of 8.8 for female over 45s.

The series appears to have won over British viewers, with approximately 177,000 searches each month for The Boys season 2, making it the most anticipated in the country.

The latest season of fantasy series Lucifer is UK viewers’ second most anticipated show. Lucifer season 5 has been Googled on average 140,000 times a month over the past year as fans have sought out the latest episodes of the Netflix show about the Devil leaving hell to run a nightclub in Los Angeles.

Out of the UK’s top 20 most anticipated TV seasons, Lucifer seasons rank four times. According to IMDB, the show is rated the highest by over aged 45 women and rated the least by over 45-year-old men.

The UK’s third most hotly anticipated series over the last 12 months is Stranger Things season 4, which is set to be released worldwide on Netflix in 2022. The show has an overall rating of 8.7 out of 10 on IMDB, with more than a third of viewers (35%) rating it 10 out of 10.

Interestingly, Bridgerton smashed Netflix viewership records with the biggest streaming audience ever, attracting 82 million of 200 million Netflix subscribers. However, it places 66th on the list of most anticipated series.

Vikings season 6 is fourth on the list of the UK’s most anticipated TV shows. The sixth season was released on Amazon Prime at the end of 2020, and in the past year has been searched an estimated 57,000 times a month.

Peaky Blinders is the most highly anticipated UK-made show, with monthly searches for its sixth season averaging 56,000, putting it fifth in the list overall. The most recent season of the show was its fifth, which was aired on BBC One in 2019, but a release date for the sixth season has yet to be confirmed.

Commenting on the study’s findings, a spokesperson for CasinoScores said: “Viewers are spoilt for choice with the breadth and depth of quality TV series available on streaming services and from traditional broadcasters. A high number of Google searches for the latest season of a show are a surefire sign that it is a hit with viewers.”
